Glossary of Terms #

Actuator (KNX Actuator): A smart device in KNX systems that converts electrical signals into physical actions, controlling lighting, heating, shutters, and other building functions. Elausys offers the Universal KNX Actuator System that provides modular, efficient control solutions.

Building Automation: The centralized control of a building’s HVAC, lighting, security, and other systems through a smart network infrastructure, enhancing energy efficiency and occupant comfort. KNX is a leading standard in building automation, supported by Elausys solutions.

Category (Visualization Category): In ElauPro, categories organize devices in the HyperVisu mobile application by function (lighting, heating, security, etc.), enabling intuitive navigation and specific permission settings for different user groups.

Channel (KNX Actuator Channel): A specific output connection point on a KNX actuator that controls individual devices or functions. Elausys actuators offer flexible channel configurations to accommodate various installation requirements.

Device Type: A template in ElauPro that defines device characteristics, communication requirements, and visualization representation. Elausys provides an extensive library of device types for common KNX applications.

Domotics (Home Automation): The integration of technology and services for better quality of living. KNX-based solutions like those from Elausys enable comprehensive domotics systems that enhance comfort, security, and energy efficiency.

ElauPro: Elausys’ cloud-based platform for automated configuration and management of KNX projects. This free software streamlines KNX programming, reducing configuration time and eliminating common setup errors.

Energy Management: The monitoring and optimization of energy consumption in buildings. Elausys systems integrate with renewable energy sources and provide visualization tools through InfluxDB and Grafana for comprehensive energy monitoring.

ETS (Engineering Tool Software): The official software tool for designing and configuring KNX installations. ElauPro complements ETS by automating configuration tasks and generating compatible project files.

Extension Module: An additional component that connects to a master actuator to provide more output channels. Elausys’ modular approach allows flexible system expansion as project requirements grow.

Global Commands: Controls in ElauPro and HyperVisu that affect multiple devices simultaneously, such as controlling all lights or shutters in a room or building zone with a single tap.

Grafana: An open-source analytics platform integrated with HyperVisu for creating customizable dashboards that visualize energy consumption, temperature trends, and other building performance metrics.

Group Address (KNX Group Address): In KNX systems, an address used to link sensors (inputs) to actuators (outputs). ElauPro automates group address generation and management, eliminating a common source of programming errors.

HyperVisu: Elausys’ intuitive mobile application for controlling KNX buildings, featuring integration with Node-RED for automation logic, InfluxDB for data storage, and Grafana for visualization dashboards.

InfluxDB: A high-performance time-series database integrated with HyperVisu for storing historical data from sensors and devices, enabling comprehensive energy monitoring and system analysis.

Input Configuration: The process of setting up push buttons and sensors to control specific outputs in a KNX system. ElauPro simplifies this with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface for input-output linking.

IoT (Internet of Things): A network of interconnected devices that can communicate and exchange data. HyperVisu and Node-RED integration enables seamless connection with various IoT devices in a KNX installation.

KNX (KNX Standard): An open, globally recognized standard for home and building control that enables interoperability between products from different manufacturers. Elausys specializes in advanced KNX solutions.

KNX Gateway: A device that enables communication between KNX systems and other protocols or technologies. Elausys offers KNX gateways for alarm systems and solar inverters to expand integration possibilities.

Master Actuator: The primary control module in Elausys’ Universal KNX Actuator System that manages extensions and provides the base functionality for controlling multiple device types.

Node-RED: A visual programming tool integrated with HyperVisu that allows integrators and advanced users to create custom automation logic and interfacing with IoT devices through an intuitive flow-based development environment.

Output Configuration: The process of assigning devices to actuator channels in ElauPro, which defines how the physical outputs will control connected equipment.

Panel (Electrical Panel): In ElauPro, a representation of a physical distribution board containing KNX modules and actuators. The software helps optimize panel layouts and automatically manages circuit documentation.

Permission Level: A numeric value in HyperVisu and ElauPro that defines user access rights, with higher numbers allowing greater system access and control capabilities.

Protocol Configuration: Settings in ElauPro that define communication parameters for KNX systems, including IP address, port, and communication method for the KNX/IP interface.

Scene (KNX Scene): A preset configuration of multiple devices that can be activated with a single command. ElauPro allows configuration of up to four scenes for sophisticated environment control.

Smart Building: A structure that uses automated processes to control operations including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, security and other systems. Elausys provides KNX solutions for creating intelligent, energy-efficient smart buildings.

Smart Home: A residence featuring automated control of household functions for improved comfort, security, and energy efficiency. KNX with Elausys components offers a reliable, standardized approach to smart home implementation.

Universal KNX Actuator System: Elausys’ modular system for managing lighting, heating, and other equipment in KNX installations, offering flexible configuration options and streamlined installation.

Visualization (KNX Visualization): The graphical user interface that allows users to monitor and control a KNX system. HyperVisu provides an intuitive, customizable visualization platform for Elausys KNX installations.

Widget: A visual control element in HyperVisu that represents and allows interaction with a device or displays information from sensors. ElauPro automatically generates appropriate widgets based on device configurations.

Area (Building Zone): In ElauPro, a subdivision of a building, typically corresponding to a floor or area, that helps organize rooms and devices for logical system management.
