Overview
The JA-121T is an RS-485 bus interface module manufactured by Jablotron, serving as the essential communication bridge between Jablotron 100+ alarm systems and external devices. For KNX integrators, this module is the required companion component for the Elausys JA-KNX gateway, enabling bidirectional communication between Jablotron security systems and KNX building automation installations.
Technical Capabilities
The module provides universal RS-485 serial communication with the Jablotron 100+ system bus. Data transmission operates in two modes: automatic transmission on status change, or passive mode where data is sent only upon request. This flexibility allows integrators to optimize bus traffic based on installation requirements.
The JA-121T features galvanically isolated circuits rated for 4kV, protecting both the alarm system and connected equipment from electrical interference and ground loop issues. The module is fully addressable and occupies one position within the Jablotron system architecture, maintaining organized device management in larger installations.
The input section connects to the Jablotron control panel bus, operating at 12VDC (9-15V range) with standby current consumption of 15mA and maximum consumption of 20mA. The output section interfaces with external devices such as the JA-KNX gateway, accepting power from 6-28VDC with nominal current load of 15mA.
Installation and Configuration
The JA-121T installs within or adjacent to the Jablotron control panel. The module connects to the Jablotron system bus using the standard four-wire connection. The RS-485 output connects to the JA-KNX gateway via screw terminals, with the built-in termination resistor on the JA-KNX eliminating additional wiring components.
Configuration of the JA-121T is performed through the Jablotron F-Link programming software. The module must be enrolled into the Jablotron system and assigned an appropriate address. Communication parameters are set to 9600 baud for compatibility with the JA-KNX gateway.
Applications
In residential KNX installations, the JA-121T enables comprehensive security-automation integration. When paired with the JA-KNX gateway, motion detectors from the Jablotron system can trigger KNX lighting scenes, arm/disarm commands can be sent from KNX push-buttons or visualization systems, and alarm events can automatically adjust shutters, climate control, and presence simulation.
Commercial buildings benefit from unified security and building management, where fire zones trigger emergency lighting sequences through KNX, and area arming status synchronizes with lighting schedules and energy management routines.
Compatibility and Integration
The JA-121T is compatible with all Jablotron 100 series alarm control panels including JA-101K, JA-103K, JA-106K, and JA-107K models. For KNX integration, the module requires the Elausys JA-KNX gateway, which translates the RS-485 protocol to KNX group objects supporting up to 96 zones, 32 PG outputs, and 4 security areas with full bidirectional control.
The combined JA-121T and JA-KNX solution integrates with any KNX TP installation and is configurable using ETS5 or ETS6. The unified Elausys alarm gateway architecture ensures consistent integration patterns with HyperVisu visualization servers and other KNX system components.
