LED Actuator Extension

Overview

The LAE-802 is an 8-channel LED driver extension module for the Elausys Universal KNX Actuator System. Designed for professional constant-voltage LED lighting control, this extension provides PWM dimming of 12-24VDC LED strips, modules, and fixtures at up to 2A per channel. Each channel operates independently as a single-color dimmer, or channels can be grouped for RGB (3-channel), RGBW (4-channel), or Tunable White (2-channel) color control applications.

Technical Capabilities

The LAE-802 provides 8 independent LED output channels (A through H) for driving constant-voltage LED loads. Each channel delivers up to 2A at 12-24VDC input voltage, suitable for LED strips, linear fixtures, and accent lighting modules commonly used in architectural and commercial lighting installations.

Channel Configuration Options:

• Single-Channel Dimmer: Each output operates as an independent dimmer with smooth PWM control, day/night brightness values, and selectable dimming curves
• RGB Control: Three channels combine for full-color mixing with unified brightness control and scene integration
• RGBW Control: Four channels enable RGB plus dedicated white for enhanced color rendering and energy efficiency
• Tunable White: Two channels provide independent control of brightness and color temperature for human-centric lighting applications

All dimming functions inherit advanced capabilities from the MSA-810 master, including staircase lighting with prewarning, scene storage, blocking functions, and integration with the built-in logic module for automated sequences and triggers.

Installation & Configuration

The LAE-802 mounts on the right side of the MSA-810 master actuator using the provided side connector, occupying only 2 space units (2SU) on standard 35mm DIN rail. This ultra-compact footprint makes the LAE-802 ideal for space-constrained cabinet installations where LED control must be integrated alongside switching and HVAC channels.

External DC power supplies (12-24VDC) connect to the DC IN terminals. LED loads wire between the channel output terminals and the positive of the DC power supply (common anode configuration). Maximum cable length to LED fixtures is 30 meters per channel. Screw terminals accept conductors up to 2.5mm2 with 0.5Nm tightening torque.

Configuration is performed through ETS5 or ETS6 using the MSA-810 application. Select the extension type as LED Actuator 8-fold in ETS to enable the LAE-802 channels. The master actuator automatically detects connected extensions during the one-button addressing sequence.

Applications

Architectural Lighting: LED cove lighting, accent strips, and facade illumination benefit from smooth dimming and color control capabilities. RGB and RGBW modes enable dynamic color scenes for hospitality and retail environments.

Residential LED Control: Living spaces, kitchens, and bathrooms use single-channel dimming for under-cabinet lighting, indirect cove details, and decorative accent fixtures. Tunable White supports circadian rhythm automation.

Commercial Installations: Offices, hotels, and conference rooms leverage Tunable White for human-centric lighting with automatic color temperature adjustment throughout the day. Scene integration enables one-touch meeting room presets.

Display and Showcase Lighting: Retail displays, museum exhibits, and product showcases benefit from precise color control and smooth dimming for optimal visual presentation.

Compatibility & Integration

The LAE-802 requires the MSA-810 master actuator to operate and cannot function as a standalone device. Up to 8 extension modules of any type can connect to a single master, enabling systems with up to 72 total channels controlled through one KNX interface.

The extension integrates with the complete Elausys Universal Actuator System ecosystem including switching extensions (SAE-810, SAE-816, SAE-2410), heating modules (HAE-805), phase dimmers (DAE-225), DALI interface (DBE-64), and analog outputs (AAE-410). This enables comprehensive building automation combining switching, shutter control, HVAC, and LED lighting through a single KNX device.

Full support for ElauPro cloud platform enables automated ETS application generation and streamlined project configuration. Integration with HyperVisu visualization provides real-time dimming status feedback and intuitive control through mobile apps and touch panels.
