Follow these steps in order. Use the detailed sections for model-specific settings and the complete object reference.

1 Prepare the installation

Have the gateway, KNX bus connection, 12-30 VDC auxiliary supply, network connection, ETS application and inverter configuration access ready. Check compatibility and firmware in Sections 3 and 10.

2 Connect and power the gateway

Connect KNX at the top. Connect auxiliary power and RJ45 Ethernet at the bottom. Connect the equipment to the same local network. The green Network LED confirms the Ethernet link; see Section 3.

3 Configure the inverter connection

Enable Modbus TCP or configure the required inverter connection using Section 4. Confirm the inverter address, port and Unit ID.

Open 192.168.1.51 from a laptop on a compatible network and assign an appropriate fixed gateway IP address. Set Mode to Connect, Server IP to the inverter address, Server Port to 502 and Unit ID to 1.

5 Configure the KNX device in ETS

Assign a free physical address. Set Inverter model to 3 for Fronius including Gen24; 6 for Fronius Symo Hybrid. Set the AC network, applicable PV circuits, refresh rate and available equipment. Set Device Options to the Fronius Smart Meter Modbus ID when a meter is installed; check the actual ID (default 200 or 240). See Sections 5 and 6.

Assign group addresses to the required objects. Press P when ETS requires programming mode and perform a full application download for initial commissioning. See Section 5.

7 Validate data and enable logic

Check the Connected LED and Module status (GO 1 = 0). Read firmware (GO 2), wait for the polling interval and compare live values with the inverter. Check power directions and optional equipment before enabling logic. See Section 7.

Commissioning is complete when

The network and inverter links are established, the ETS download succeeds, and the required group objects return plausible values for the installed equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What must be ready before commissioning?

Prepare the gateway, a 12–30 VDC auxiliary supply, the KNX bus and network connections, the appropriate ETS application, and access to the inverter configuration.

Does the Network LED prove that commissioning is complete?

No. The Network LED confirms the physical Ethernet link. Also check inverter communication with the Connected LED, complete the ETS download and compare the required KNX values with the inverter.

When should I enable automation based on inverter data?

First verify Module status, wait for the configured polling interval, compare live measurements and check power directions and optional-equipment availability.
