The INV-KNX gateway connects SMA solar inverters to a KNX installation. It reads inverter data over Ethernet using Modbus TCP and publishes the measurements as native KNX communication objects.
Integrators can use these values for energy monitoring, trends and project-specific automation, including actions based on solar production, battery operation and grid exchange.
Supported SMA installations
The gateway supports SMA Sunny Boy, Sunny Tripower and Sunny Tripower Smart Energy inverters that provide the required SMA native Modbus profile or SunSpec Modbus interface. Connect the inverter and gateway to the same router/network.
Model 23 with gateway Unit Id 3 is the default for new installations and provides full battery and grid-meter data where the connected equipment supports it. Model 1 with Unit Id 126 provides the legacy SunSpec option. Section 3 explains the model selection and application limits.
Main capabilities
- Monitoring of energy, power, current, voltage, frequency, temperature and available battery or meter values.
- Configurable polling interval for inverter data.
- KNX bus isolation and compact DIN-rail installation.
- Local logic functions including gates, sequences, triggers, mathematical operations and weekly calendar events.
Configuration and requirements
Configure network and Modbus communication through the gateway webpage. Use ETS to assign the KNX physical address, set the application parameters and link group addresses. An auxiliary 12-30 VDC supply is required.
This manual and the related ETS application apply to firmware V3.2.3.1 and above. The SMA application supports PV circuits 1 and 2 and Battery 1 where fitted; PV circuits 3 and 4 and Battery 2 are not used.
Before commissioning
Identify the inverter model and IP address, confirm the available battery and metering equipment, and prepare the ETS project and network settings. Continue with the quick commissioning procedure in Chapter 2.
