Gateway web configuration
The factory gateway IP address is 192.168.1.51. Connect a laptop that can reach this address and open it in a web browser. If the page is unreachable, check the Ethernet link, the laptop network settings and whether the gateway already has a different IP address.
Assign the gateway a free fixed IP address suitable for the installation. Record it and reconnect at the new address after applying the network change.

Always connect to the inverter IP address. Do not use the Sunny Home Manager IP address. A Sunny Home Manager is not required for model 23. Grid power comes from the inverter’s grid-metering registers, which depend on an installed SMA Energy Meter or Sunny Home Manager. Without this metering source, grid power may be zero or unavailable.
Enable the SMA TCP server in Sunny Explorer
Use this procedure on inverters configured through Sunny Explorer. Create a Speedwire system as described in the Sunny Explorer user manual. For a different inverter interface, use the corresponding SMA instructions to enable the same Modbus TCP server settings.
- Start Sunny Explorer and open or create the Speedwire system.
- Log into the system as Installer.
- Select the SMA inverter in the system tree.
- Open Settings, then External Communication.
- Select Edit. Under Modbus, locate TCP Server.
- Set Modbus > TCP Server > Activated to Yes.
- Keep port 502, or set a different port and enter the same port in the gateway.
- Select Save.
Connection check
After configuring the model and Unit Id, check that the Connected LED is on. A Network LED alone confirms only the physical Ethernet link. It does not confirm Modbus communication or valid KNX data.
