Follow these steps in order. For a new installation, use inverter model 23 with gateway Modbus Unit Id 3. Use model 1 only for the legacy cases described in Section 3.
1 Prepare the installation
Have the INV-KNX gateway, a 12-30 VDC auxiliary supply, KNX bus connection, Ethernet connection, ETS with the appropriate Elausys application and SMA installer access ready. Record the inverter IP address and choose a free gateway IP address on the same network.
2 Connect and power the gateway
Connect KNX at the top. Connect the auxiliary supply and Ethernet at the bottom. Keep the gateway and inverter on the same router/network. Check that the green Network LED indicates a physical Ethernet link. See Section 3.
3 Enable Modbus TCP on the inverter
Log in as Installer. Enable Modbus > TCP Server, select Activated = Yes and use port 502. Save the inverter configuration. The Sunny Explorer procedure is in Section 4.
4 Set the gateway network and Modbus link
Open the gateway at 192.168.1.51 from a laptop on a compatible network. Assign a suitable fixed IP address. Set Mode = Connect, IP = inverter IP address, Server Port = 502 and Unit Id = 3 for model 23 or 126 for model 1. Always target the inverter, not Sunny Home Manager.
5 Configure the KNX device in ETS
Assign a free physical address. Set the inverter model, AC network, one or two PV circuits and refresh interval. Enable Battery 1 and Powermeter only when present. Leave Battery 2 as Not Used and Device Options empty. See Sections 5 and 6.
6 Link group addresses and download
Assign a group address to every required group object. Press P for programming mode when assigning the physical address; perform a full download for the first commissioning. Include the configured application and group-address links. See Section 5.
7 Validate the data before enabling logic
Check the Connected LED. In ETS Group Monitor, verify Module status = 0 and compare live inverter data after the configured polling interval. For model 23, check battery power and grid power signs. Record the configuration and firmware. See Section 7.
Commissioning is complete when
Both Ethernet and inverter communication are established, the ETS download succeeds, the required group objects return plausible values and the installed equipment matches the enabled battery and meter options.
